TNG Digital FINHACK 2026 spotlights fintech’s real pain points, as participants turn to AI for real-world solutions
TNG Digital Sdn. Bhd. (“TNG Digital”), the operator of Malaysia’s leading digital financial services and lifestyle app, TNG eWallet, today announced the successful completion of its first-ever hackathon, TNG Digital FINHACK 2026 (“FINHACK”), which focused on tackling known pain points in fintech, from fraud and security to financial inclusion, and demonstrated how AI is being applied in practical ways to solve them.
Held from 25 to 26 April 2026 at Grand Summit, Connexion, Bangsar South, the two-day, one-night hackathon brought together over 300 participants from across Malaysia, including students, developers, designers and aspiring entrepreneurs, to work on problem statements spanning artificial intelligence (AI), digital payments, financial access and secure digital finance.
While these challenges are not new, the 36-hour build highlighted how teams are approaching them with greater focus on execution and real-world applicability.
Across the build, three key priorities emerged: restoring trust in digital finance, expanding financial access for underserved communities, and unlocking new value through innovative solution and creative use of emerging technologies. This was reflected in the strong focus on financial inclusion (35.5%), followed by security and fraud (33.9%) and innovation (30.6%).
Many teams moved beyond surface-level AI integrations, incorporating AI as a core part of their solutions to handle complex tasks, from analysing scam patterns using natural language processing to detecting high-risk transactions, categorising user spending, and enabling automated transaction confirmations with high confidence.

Leslie Lip, Chief Technology Officer of TNG Digital, said, “The challenges in fintech are not new, but what matters is how we find innovative ways to solve them. Through FINHACK, we are seeing a new generation of builders step forward with fresh thinking, tackling real issues like fraud, financial access and operational efficiency in meaningful ways. What is especially encouraging is how AI is being applied, not just as a feature, but as a tool to make financial services more proactive, secure and accessible. The next step is to continue nurturing this talent and explore how these solutions can be developed further to deliver real impact at scale.”
The hackathon was supported by a strong ecosystem of industry partners, including global technology leaders such as Alibaba Cloud, OceanBase, Visa, and Amazon Web Services, whose contributions, both in funding and expertise, reflect how industry players are coming together to drive innovation, nurture talent and advance Malaysia’s digital economy.
Following the closing ceremony, the hackathon concluded with the announcement of the winning teams, recognised for their innovative and impactful solutions across key fintech challenges. A total of RM100,000 in cash and exclusive prizes was awarded.
The grand prize was awarded to 0110_0111 for Project Fatimah, an eWallet fraud protection initiative that introduces a behavioural circuit breaker for high-risk transfers through multiple layers of protection. They were followed by INIKALILAH and HULM. The winning teams stood out for their ability to translate innovative ideas into practical, scalable solutions with clear real-world relevance.
