TNG Digital Sdn. Bhd. (“TNG Digital”), operator of Malaysia’s leading digital financial services and lifestyle app, TNG eWallet, today launched overseas ride-hailing feature, making it the first Malaysian eWallet to let users book and pay for rides abroad directly in the app.

For Malaysians travelling overseas, getting around can mean downloading a local ride-hailing app, going through multiple verification steps, navigating it in an unfamiliar language and setting up a new payment method. The new feature removes these extra steps by allowing users to book and pay for rides directly through TNG eWallet.

Rides are paid for in ringgit using user’s existing TNG eWallet balance, removing the need to handle foreign currency on arrival. Fares are shown upfront before a booking is confirmed, while trip details and transaction records are available within TNG eWallet.

Built in collaboration with Alipay+, the feature provides access to ride-hailing services across 47 countries and more than 12,000 cities, covering popular travel destinations among Malaysian travellers such as Japan, South Korea and China, as well as selected markets in North America and the European Union.

With multiple providers available across supported destinations, users can select the service that best suits their needs, making overseas travel more convenient overall.

The launch responds to growing demand for an all-in-one travel experience within an app Malaysians already know and use at home. To date, around 35% of TNG eWallet users have used at least one travel-related service in the app, highlighting the opportunity to support more of their needs before and during their trips.

“Malaysians are already using TNG eWallet to prepare and pay for their trips. Overseas ride-hailing addresses one of the first practical needs after they land: getting around without setting up another app or payment method. This is another step in building TNG eWallet into a more connected travel companion for Malaysians,” said Alan Ni, Chief Executive Officer of TNG Digital.

The addition of overseas ride-hailing expands the range of travel services available through TNG eWallet. Travellers can access travel deals and eSIM plans before departure, make cross-border payments at their destination, and now book rides to get around, all within one familiar app.

“Alipay+ is making mobile experiences borderless, enabling consumers to access the services they need through the apps they already know and trust. By connecting our partners to a broader ecosystem of services, we’re turning their apps into intelligent gateways to the world, where AI and interoperability bring consumers closer to the right services and merchants, at the right moment, wherever they are,” said Scarlett Xing, General Manager of Alipay+ Travel Solutions, Ant International.

The feature is enabled through Alipay+, Ant International’s unified wallet gateway, which enables partners to connect with global merchants, travel services and build AI-native digital services for their users. By integrating overseas ride-hailing into TNG eWallet, TNG Digital and Alipay+ are expanding the travel utility of digital wallets beyond payment acceptance, creating a more connected in-app experience for travellers throughout their journey.

It builds on ongoing collaborations between TNG Digital and Alipay+ in global payments, digital engagement, travel innovations and AI-powered services, that aim to build a smarter, more connected ecosystem directly within TNG eWallet.
