School holidays during major festivals in 2026
The three festive school holiday periods are Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali. They include additional KPM holidays or overlap with a scheduled term break in the official 2026 calendar.
Chinese New Year
Schools in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu had additional holidays on 15, 16 and 19 February. All other states and federal territories had 16, 19 and 20 February off.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri
KPM later added 18 March as a school holiday nationwide. This gave Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu additional holidays on 18 and 19 March, while all other states and federal territories had 18 to 20 March off. Hari Raya Aidilfitri on 21 and 22 March fell within the first term break.
Deepavali
Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Sarawak have an additional school holiday on 9 November. All other states and federal territories have 10 November off. Sarawak’s 9 November break is a KPM school holiday, not a Deepavali public holiday. Check your school’s announcements and current KPM notices before booking your trip.
How can parents and employees can plan school holidays
- Confirm your state’s school calendar
Find the child’s state in the table above and confirm whether the school follows the KPM calendar or a private academic calendar. This prevents travel plans from being based on dates that do not apply to the child.
- Coordinate annual leave early
Compare the school break with work commitments, family schedules and public holidays. Submit leave requests early when several colleagues are likely to choose the same dates. The 2026 long weekend holiday planner can also help employees compare school breaks with public holidays.
- Set a complete holiday budget
Include accommodation, transport, tolls, parking, meals, activities and emergency spending. A complete budget makes it easier to compare a longer trip with several shorter family outings. Families staying close to home can consider affordable school holiday ideas around Klang Valley.
- Book flexible travel where possible
Check cancellation and rescheduling conditions before paying. Flexible arrangements can be useful when a school activity, work requirement or family situation changes.
Plan and pay for your school holiday trip
- Plan overseas travel with GOtravel
If the school holiday includes an overseas trip, GOtravel in TNG eWallet brings together services for planning an itinerary, booking flights, hotels and attractions, arranging a travel eSIM and considering travel insurance.
Review the latest prices, eligibility, coverage and booking conditions in the app before paying. Choose travel protection based on your family’s destination and planned activities rather than price alone.
- Reload your TNG eWallet before a road trip
Reload your TNG eWallet before leaving so you have enough balance for toll payments through RFID. For RFID, make sure your tag is active and linked to your eWallet, then use the RFID lane. Check coverage along your route. Keep enough balance on your physical Touch ‘n Go card for tolls that do not support PayDirect.
- Pay for supported On-Street Parking street parking
At participating local councils, you can pay for on-street parking through TNG eWallet by selecting the parking location, vehicle registration number and duration in the app. It will even alert you when your time’s almost up, so you can make a new purchase easily.
Parking rules, operating hours and availability vary by council. Check local signs and the options shown in the app before leaving the vehicle.
- Pay for food and drinks with TNG ewallet
You can use TNG eWallet at participating restaurants, cafés and food vendors overseas. Select your destination country in the app. Depending on the destination and outlet, you can scan the merchant’s QR code or show your own QR code for the merchant to scan.
To scan a supported merchant QR code, tap Scan and enter the amount in the local currency. Check the amount before confirming. If the merchant scans customers’ QR codes, tap Pay and show your code to complete the payment. Check whether the outlet accepts TNG eWallet before ordering, and keep another payment option available.
- Find nearby restaurants with Near Me
Use Near Me in TNG eWallet to discover nearby restaurants, user reviews and available food deals. Listings may also show operating hours, location, distance and contact details to help the family choose where to eat.
Location access is required, and participating listings or offers may vary. Check the restaurant details before travelling there, especially during public holidays or late hours.
Plan your 2026 school holiday with less stress
The best time to plan a school holiday is after confirming the correct dates for your child’s school and before bookings become limited. Align annual leave, set a complete budget and prepare the travel details that could otherwise slow down a family trip. For an overseas family getaway, explore GOtravel in TNG eWallet and review the travel services available for your destination.
